Creepy dolls I have found

I find a lot of scary vintage dolls at op shops and markets. Sometimes I pause to take a photo do I can share the terror with my friends on instagram. Here are some of them:

Ugly Islander doll
This one seemed to be a souvenir from some touristy place. I don’t think I want to go wherever it’s from.

scary vintage clown doll
I doubt there is any universe out there where this wouldn’t seem like a terrifying, horrible toy that every child would be scare of.

This isn’t really a toy, but it seems super racist, wouldn’t want it in my house either.

I think the rodent-like teeth make me hate this one

Unsure if pink eyes are meant to suggest gender, infection or a state of possession.

The sculpt of this doll suggests that this wasn’t originally meant to be this colour. I don’t think anyone painted it, but I think Caucasian versions would also exist.

ugly barbie clone
I’m assuming this ugly Barbie clone is meant to look like someone famous. Also the glued-on-leg look is hideous.

If you ever wondered what was inside a banana’s pyjamas you were not missing much.

These dolls are more realistic than most, it looks like someone killed and stuffed an entire family of pugs.

Teddy bear with a beard
This is a bear with a beard. This isn’t really that creepy, but just stupid looking

My Little Pony has been skinned
I found this poor little guy in a carpark in an industrial estate. A skinned My Little Pony.

Bratz Baby

The mouth and thighs on this one worries me.

Pink dog toy with new eye
This belongs to my friend’s dog. Its eye fell off so their grandmother replaced it with some other eye making it far creepier than if it has simply has only one eye.

Ugly soft Toy Story Woody doll
Sheriff Woody from Toy Story looks far better with a plastic head

Creepy Mario Brick Bear

I bought this a few years ago in a clothing store. I think it was a smaller store attached to Episode on Sydney road. I think it cost between $12-15 but was most definitely worth it.

A picture of this monstrosity has been my avatar on palgn ever since. For some reason you can buy hundreds of figures in this shape that are painted with different colours and patterns and some are designed to resemble copyrighted characters. I believe they are known as brick bears. Probably because when you see them you want to smash them to pieces with a brick. I might be wrong though.

Yano Interactive Storyteller

Yano's face may be the last thing you see before you die

Yano's face may be the last thing you see before you die

Sometime in early or mid 2010 I saw this unusual and creepy toy at the Camberwell Sunday Market. I found it interesting and the owner claimed it was worth hundreds of dollars on ebay and they were willing to sell it for $35 or something like that. I tried looking up whatever they said it’s name was but i couldn’t seem to find out any information on it. I didn’t buy it and forgot about it. Last week I was at an op shop and found a Furby, all their soft toys were $2 each. I looked around to see if there were any more Furby dolls and then saw Yano’s face looking out side of giant wire framed basket under a pile of other boring toys. I grabbed it and noticed the face was damaged but considering it’s age and the material it was made from it seemed ok. I took it home and realised it still had batteries in it and wow. My friend who was with me was super creeped out by it’s loud grinding gears as it’s head turned and his face moved as he talked. It told us an awful story called “The Magic Singing Stone”. To continue the story we had to press either the Yes or No button on its chest. I’ve since found out that it is meant to come with a special controller that is better for communicating with Yano, but I’ve since been back to the store and couldn’t seem to find it anywhere. Not a big deal.

Yano compared to a Furby.

Yano was made in 2001 by The Original San Francisco Toymakers Ltd. Some searches on Youtube have shown that this toy was just as terrorifying to kids in 2001 as it would be now. It reads stories out of a chip that is inserted into the bottom of the toy. It runs on several C cell batteries. One video mentioned that the kid’s parents used to threaten them with Yano if he did not eat his vegetables or something. Other people have made amusing videos using creative lighting to highlight how creepy this toy can be and other people have modded it and used it’s robotic face for their own uses.
